AU PAIR or Nanny is a person who lives with an American host family and participates directly in the home life of the host family. All au pair participants provide child care services to the host family and attend a U.S. post-secondary educational institution.

Additionally, an AU PAIR or NANNY, participating under a Cultural Exchange Program (to US), provides up to forty-five hours of child care services per week and pursue not less than six semester hours of academic credit or its equivalent during their year of program participation.

Au pairs participating in the EduCare program provide up to thirty hours of child care services per week and pursue not less than twelve semester hours of academic credit or its equivalent during their year of program participation.

EXCHANGE VISITOR VISA (a.k.a. J-1 Visa): The visa issued to people who will be participating in an educational or cultural exchange program in the USA.

F-1 VISA or Student Visa: The visa for people who want to study at an accredited U.S. college or university, or to study English at a university or language institute.

H-3 TRAINEE VISA General Information: The United States issues H-3 Temporary Trainee Visas to foreign nationals who wish to come to the United States for on-the-job training provided by an American company. H-3 Trainee Visa holders are allowed to work only for the company that is providing the training. Under this Trainee Visa, employment should only play a minor role in the program, as the main objective should be the training, not the actual work. H-3 Temporary Trainee Visas are usually issued for the duration of the training program (up to 2 years). J-1 VISA or Exchange Visitor Visa: The J-1 Visa is issued to people who will be participating in an educational or cultural exchange program in the USA, or an Exchange Visitor Program participant; a J-2 visa is issued to immediate family members (e.g. spouses and dependents) of the J-1 visa holder.

M-1 VISA or Student Visa: The visa for those enrolled in nonacademic or vocational programs in the USA.

SHORT-TERM is a time period of less than 360 Days.  A minimum umber of days is usually required and in most cases the minimum number of coverage days is 5, although in some cases, you must buy 7, 10 or 15 days at minimum.  (When you click on the "quote" button of a particlar product and enter travel start and end dates, our system will automatically alert you if you are meeting the minimum coverage requirement for that product.)  LONG-TERM is defined as greater than 360 days.  ANNUAL RENEWABLE and ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP and COMPREHENSIVE WORLDWIDE plans are also long-term..

A SHORT-TERM SCHOLAR is a professor, research scholar, or person with similar education or accomplishments coming to the United States on a short-term visit for the purpose of lecturing, observing, consulting, training, or demonstrating special skills at research institutions, museums, libraries, post-secondary accredited educational institutions, or similar type of institutions.
